How it works

Citation Generator

Paste a link, DOI or title and get a citation in the style you need.

Get a better result

  1. DOIs beat titles

A DOI points to exactly one source, so the details come back right.

  2. Check the capitals

APA uses sentence case for article titles; MLA and Chicago use title case.

  3. Cite as you go

Add each source the moment you use it, not the night before the deadline.

How it works

  1. 1

We work out what you pasted: a DOI, an ISBN, a web link or a title.

  2. 2

We look it up in free public catalogues: Crossref for articles and DOIs, Open Library for books, or the page's own details for a link. No AI is used.

  3. 3

For a book found by title, we choose its earliest English edition. A title search can match the wrong work, so we show what we found and offer other matches.

  4. 4

We format it with the rules of APA 7, MLA 9 and Chicago, ready to copy.

Good to know

Details are only as good as the catalogue's records. Check the result against your source, and paste an ISBN to cite the exact edition you used.
