PICOT questions, answered

What's the difference between PICO and PICOT?

PICOT adds a time frame. Use PICO when time doesn't change the question. Many nursing courses ask for PICOT, so check your rubric.

Does my intervention have to be a nursing intervention?

In most nursing courses, yes. Students lose time when their PICOT tests something only a physician can order. Pick an action a nurse can start or change, such as education, positioning, rounding or a protocol.

How do I know there's enough research?

Run the search string before you commit. If PubMed or CINAHL returns only a handful of studies from the last five years, widen the population or choose a more studied intervention.

Are there other types of PICOT question?

Yes. Besides intervention questions there are prognosis, diagnosis, etiology and meaning questions. This generator builds intervention questions, the type most EBP assignments use.

Is the generator free?

Yes, with no account. Writing the EBP paper in Thezis is free to start too, with 10 AI requests.
